PINEA 2018
100% Tempranillo. DO Ribera del Duero
The 2018 vintage of our flagship PINEA is an elegant and perfectly balanced wine that shows remarkable complexity in aromas.
4th Best Wine in Spain – Wine Spectator (July 2023)
- The 2018 vintage was characterised by near-perfect weather. It denotes superior structure and complexity compared to the previous year, probably due to the vines recovering from the late frost of April 2017.
- After moderate temperatures in May and June, ripening was expected to be compromised, but in late July and August, optimal temperatures and some heat waves brought the cycle forward. Despite the spring humidity and some scattered summer storms, the health of the bunches was not compromised. On average, September was the warmest September since 1965 in Spain, with dramatic temperature swings between day and night.
- The weather conditions in mid-October were ideal and, after the grapes were harvested by hand into small baskets and carefully sorted, they entered the vinification process in excellent condition.
Tasting notes
Ageing: 3 winters Keep: 30 yearsThis is an opaque wine with a bright ruby rim showing its years of ageing.
It has an intense aroma with plenty of personality and notes reminiscent of black fruit blending with spicy and toasted touches enhancing the marked complexity it expresses.
On the palate it imposes itself, with great structure provided by its intense tannins refined with a vibrant acidity that lifts the elegance of the wine in its long finish.

DescúbreloPairing | Pinea
“To achieve the best pairing with Pinea, it’s best if you can understand where it comes from. The climatic differences of La Ribera and its complex, austere soils provide different products of the highest quality, with great flavour, all year round. That’s why this long-aged wine understands and conveys that sense of place and can accompany traditional suckling lamb chops roasted on a wood fire; spicy stews made with game, local cereals and vegetables; soft goat cheeses with reduction of figs; and caramelised pine nuts with aniseed. The descriptors and textures of these foods simply reflect the subtle touches this wine carries with it.” Andrés Vignoni, Consultant Winemaker at PINEA
