PINEA 2017
100% Tempranillo. DO Ribera del Duero

The 2017 vintage of our flagship PINEA is elegant and balanced, showing remarkable complexity in aromas.

  • The 2017 vintage was characterised by challenging weather conditions.
  • After a very cold winter, the worst April frost in 25 years significantly affected vineyards in the wine regions of northern Spain, southern France and northern Italy. Fortunately, not all the Pinea vines had budded by then, thanks in part to the cooler spring temperatures in the higher areas of our vineyards The cooler autumn weather allowed for very slow ripening and, finally, in the second half of October we hand-picked a very small crop of the highest quality grapes.
  • The combination of low yields and careful selection of grapes from Cardisanto’s best terroir resulted in a great concentration of flavours and weapons for the 2017 vintage of PINEA.

Tasting notes

Ageing: 3 winters Keep: 30 years

This red wine has an intense ruby colour. It has a garnet rim and a very high and deep robe. It is clean and bright.

On the nose it is a wine of high intensity that is clean and balanced. Great presence of black fruit with a predominance of blackberry, typical of the variety. Notes of bitter cocoa, intense coffee, cedar and smoky tones that give it length and depth.

It is a wine with a powerful and abundant entry that fills and envelops the mouth from start to finish. With a powerful body, marked tannin and remarkable well-integrated alcohol, it achieves a perfect balance on the palate. It leaves us with flavours of black fruits of the forest, blackberries and spices such as clove and black pepper. It has a long, harmonious aftertaste and a finish with smoky and slightly bitter notes that give it great length.

Descúbrelo

Pairing | PINEA

“To achieve the best pairing with Pinea, it’s best if you can understand where it comes from. The climatic differences of La Ribera and its complex, austere soils provide different products of the highest quality, with great flavour, all year round. That’s why this long-aged wine understands and conveys that sense of place and can accompany traditional suckling lamb chops roasted on a wood fire; spicy stews made with game, local cereals and vegetables; soft goat cheeses with reduction of figs; and caramelised pine nuts with aniseed. The descriptors and textures of these foods simply reflect the subtle touches this wine carries with it.” Andrés Vignoni, Consultant Winemaker at PINEA
