D.O. Ribera del Duero

Some wines tell a story. This one embodies it.

  • A new creation. An unwritten chapter in the story of PINEA.

Born in the shadow of a medieval castle, it unites the strength of the ancient with the audacity of a new gaze.

  • A contemporary interpretation of Ribera, drawn from the depths of its history.

A declaration of love to the terroir; a tribute to exploration; a promise to turn its story into an unrepeatable masterpiece.

It doesn’t impose, it doesn’t pretend. It’s destined to leave its mark

“It is quite chalky. Beautifully rendered, with lovely fluidity and agility, but also depth, intensity and lenght. Super drinkability for Ribera del Duero”.

A landscape that defies time and captivates us with its mystique
A century-old vineyard among the world’s finest.

  • KORDE El Castillo is the silent heir of an ancient and powerful land. Born from one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in Ribera del Duero, it carries in its veins the wisdom of century-old vines and in its soul, the boldness of a new vision.
  • A century-old vineyard, the likes of which are rarely seen. A terroir that speaks without words, safeguarded by five generations who have preserved its singularity intact.
  • A wine born as the inseparable echo of the land that called us. We did not seek it—it was “El Castillo” that found us. As if it had something to say… A whisper of centuries longing to find its voice. That search became a challenge, almost an obsession: to uncover it, and to shape it into something unique, bearing the hallmark of PINEA and the heartbeat of KORDE.
  • Light, fresh and brimming with fruit. The purest reflection of what Ribera can be when it dares to rewrite the script.
  • A single barrel. A gesture of gratitude… Bottles that hold not only wine, but a fragment of the very soul of that place.

Tasting notes

Aging: 2 winters Cellaring potential: 20 years

The depth and intensity of its colour contrast with the wine’s light, graceful character — seducing from the very first glance.

On the nose, it reveals the finesse that only old multivarietal vineyards can offer: a broad aromatic palette that moves between floral notes and herbal nuances, with bright red fruit melting into the freshness of black fruit. In the background, delicate tertiary hints of blond tobacco, damp earth and liquorice begin to emerge.

On the palate, it is flavourful and fluid, with fine-grained tannins that add texture, length and a persistent juiciness that invites — almost unknowingly — another sip.

Origin

From a century-old vineyard set against the majestic silhouette of the medieval castle of Peñaranda de Duero (Burgos), this wine embodies the purest essence of what Ribera del Duero was before anyone dared to define it. An awe-inspiring site, safeguarded by five generations who have preserved its singular character intact.

A living witness to an ancestral way of working the land, this vineyard is cultivated in field blend, as was once the ancient custom. Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) reigns supreme (75%), accompanied by Bobal, Garnacha, Albillo and Pirulés. This natural assemblage—the fruit of the intuition of those who cultivated without a map—gives rise to a wine that is both tribute and revelation: a contemporary interpretation born of a vineyard worthy of the greatest in the world.

Viticulture and harvest

Harvesting is done by hand, in 12-kilogram crates, in a single day when all the varieties in the parcel are gathered. The entire PINEA team takes part, ensuring that each cluster reaches the winery intact. The precise day is chosen through grape tasting, seeking the optimal ripeness for each variety.

This vineyard, tended with near-devotion by our vineyard manager and his family, has taught us to look at the land differently. Not only because of the singularity of the site, but through everything we have learned by seeing it through his eyes. To harvest it each year is, for us, a way of honouring that bond.

At PINEA we harvest early, seeking to highlight freshness and acidity, true to our commitment to wines of lower alcohol and to letting the fruit take centre stage.

Our work in the vineyard is guided by the utmost respect for the environment, in alliance with biodiversity and centuries-old traditions, so that every bottle expresses the purest essence of its terroir.

Wine-making and aging

After a meticulous selection of clusters, fermentation includes 40% whole bunches. It unfolds spontaneously, with no exogenous temperature control, between 23º and 27ºC. Extraction is kept to the bare minimum: a single daily pumping-over and two precise punch-downs during fermentation.

After pressing, the wine rests for 18 months in a single 500-litre French barrel of several uses, chosen precisely so that the wood speaks with subtlety and allows the fruit to shine. Finally, it is bottled without fining or filtration, preserving all its purity and character.

Serving recommendation

It is ready to be enjoyed upon release, though a further three years of bottle age enhance its expression and bring it closer to its fullest moment.

Serve at 15°C.

KORDE El Castillo was born as a natural extension of PINEA: A passionate journey that connects past, present and future in each elaboration.

Pairing KORDE El Castillo

“KORDE El Castillo is a wine with character, but also with fluidity. It calls for a cuisine that honours the past with respect while embracing simplicity. A stew of beans with partridge or a rice dish with small game brings out its depth without overshadowing the wine’s finesse.

It also finds its place alongside seasonal vegetables roasted with thyme and olive oil, or a warm selection of cured meats and aged cheeses from the Castilian plateau.

This is a wine that understands the flavour of the land — and pairs beautifully with everything born from it.”
