KORDE Tinto
Tempranillo and other red and white varieties. D.O. Ribera del Duero

A wine that defies every expectation.

James Suckling “Wine Crush” (September 2024)

An unparalleled expression of Ribera del Duero, that invites you to rethink everything you thought you knew about this land.

A wine unbound. So distinctive you have to taste it to understand it—and even then it will keep gently overturning your assumptions, in the best possible way .

KORDE TINTO, A WINE THAT DARES TO REDEFINE THE BOUNDARIES.

The first vintage of KORDE Tinto offers a new perspective for Ribera del Duero. A bold, defiant departure for the region. Lighter, more nuanced, and more elegant than many. This is a taut, vibrant wine, with a finish that highlights fruit and minerality rather than density or weight”.

James Suckling

  • KORDE Tinto takes to its ultimate consequences the essence of the KORDE line: atypicality and the quiet breaking of paradigms.
  • A wine always begins with an idea; yet it is also a living being—evolving, conversing, and, in time, finding its own story. The story of KORDE Tinto was born of a leap of faith. This wine embodies the reward that comes from daring to explore new paths.
  • Lightly extracted and vibrantly fresh, it unfurls vivid red-berry aromas with a subtle citrus lift, while a precise, crystalline acidity interlaces with delicate tannins. KORDE Tinto shows that a light-footed style has its rightful place in Ribera del Duero.
  • Its origin lies in “La Isa”, one of our oldest plots—its viticultural record goes back to 1964—where red and white varieties grow side by side. Tempranillo (Tinta Fina) holds the soul of the whole, accompanied by Albillo, Rojal, Pirulés, Bobal… a plural inheritance that comes together harmoniously in the making.
  • Fermented and then aged over two winters in a single, seasoned 500-litre French oak barrel—which softens the imprint of the wood and heightens varietal expression—. Its production is extremely limited; all but confidential.
  • A wine that feels almost like a sleight of hand, one that will upend how you understand Ribera del Duero.

Tasting notes

Aging: 2 winters Cellaring potential: 15 years

Its translucent, limpid, and brilliant colour signals from the outset the lightness and refinement that define it.

On the nose, it shows pronounced intensity, led by fresh red berries with a delicate citrus back-note.

On the palate, it is precise and taut, carried by vibrant acidity that lengthens the finish. Fine, elegant tannins are seamlessly integrated, leaving a sense of purity and freshness.

Origin

KORDE Tinto comes from “La Isa”, one of our oldest vineyards, with viticultural records dating to 1945—though it may be older still.

This elevated plateau site, flanked by almond trees and marked by a seam of clay-limestone soils, hosts a mixed planting where both red and white vines coexist. Among them, Tempranillo (Tinta Fina) takes centre stage, accompanied by a mosaic of traditional varieties—Albillo, Rojal, Pirulés, Bobal…—which lend complexity and authenticity to its character.

Viticulture and harvest

At PINEA we pick early. Within that philosophy, KORDE Tinto is the first of our reds to reach the winery, harvested at the moment when the different varieties in the plot arrive at a poised, balanced ripeness. In this way we underline freshness and acidity, true to our preference for moderate alcohol and for letting fruit remain the true protagonist.

The harvest is by hand, in 14-kg crates, to protect the berries until they reach the winery. There, we carry out a second, cluster-by-cluster selection; only the healthiest, most pristine bunches continue.

Our work in the vineyard is guided by the utmost respect for the environment, in alliance with biodiversity and time-honoured traditions, so that each bottle is the clearest expression of its terroir.

Wine-making and aging

Fermentation takes place in a small open-top fermenter, using 50% whole clusters, some of them gently foot-trod at vatting. During this process we perform a single, gentle pump-over of the cap to limit extraction, and the wine is run off the skins before alcoholic fermentation has fully finished.

Malolactic fermentation then takes place in a single 500-litre second-use French oak barrel, where the wine finds its unhurried rhythm.

Aging continues over two winters, refining its character with the serenity of time.

Serving recommendation

It is ready to enjoy on release, though two further years of bottle age will enhance its expression and bring it closer to its fullest moment.

Serve at 15°C.

Pairing | KORDE Tinto

«We will find the best pairing for KORDE Tinto in light and fresh dishes. A white fish ceviche, for example, beautifully complements the citrus nuances of the wine, while grilled chicken dishes with a red fruit reduction accentuate its elegance and delicate tannic texture. For a more sophisticated experience, I suggest pairing with duck magret or foie gras, which balance the acidity and enhance the fruit aromas. Fresh goat cheeses also offer a perfect combination. This pairing will allow KORDE Tinto to display all its complexity and subtlety, offering an unparalleled gastronomic experience.»
