KORDE El Castillo 2023
Tempranillo and other red and white varieties. D.O. Ribera del Duero
Born before one of the most breathtaking landscapes of Ribera del Duero, it carries in its veins the wisdom of century-old vines and in its soul, the daring of a new vision.

- Light, fresh and fruit-driven, KORDE El Castillo is the purest reflection of what Ribera can become when it dares to step off script. It speaks a different language, born from respect for its origin and with the determination to write the future.
- The 2023 growing season began with a mild, dry winter, free from extreme weather events, which encouraged an early and balanced budbreak.
Spring brought moderate temperatures and well-distributed rainfall, supporting a smooth flowering and harmonious vegetative growth, with excellent vineyard health.
A warm, dry summer followed, marked by significant diurnal temperature shifts that allowed for slow, precise ripening while preserving the grapes’ natural freshness and acidity.
Tasting notes
Aging: 2 winters Cellaring potential: 20 years
The depth and intensity of its colour contrast with the wine’s light, graceful character — seducing from the very first glance.
On the nose, it reveals the finesse that only old multivarietal vineyards can offer: a broad aromatic palette that moves between floral notes and herbal nuances, with bright red fruit melting into the freshness of black fruit. In the background, delicate tertiary hints of blond tobacco, damp earth and liquorice begin to emerge.
On the palate, it is flavourful and fluid, with fine-grained tannins that add texture, length and a persistent juiciness that invites — almost unknowingly — another sip.
KORDE El Castillo 2023, in detail
Alcoholic content: 14%.
Origin:
From a century-old vineyard set against the majestic silhouette of the medieval castle of Peñaranda de Duero (Burgos), this wine embodies the purest essence of a Ribera that stands the test of time.
An awe-inspiring site, safeguarded by five generations who have managed to preserve its singular character. A living witness to an ancestral way of working the land, this vineyard is cultivated in field blend, as was once customary in the region.
Tinta Fina reigns supreme (75%), accompanied by Bobal, Garnacha, Albillo and Pirulés. This natural assemblage —the fruit of the intuition of those who cultivated without a map— gives rise to a wine that is both tribute and revelation: a contemporary interpretation born of a vineyard worthy of the greatest in the world.
Manual harvest:
The grapes are harvested by hand in 12-kg boxes, in a single day (25 September 2023) during which all the co-planted varieties in the vineyard are picked together. The exact harvest date is determined through grape tasting, seeking the optimal ripeness point for each variety.
Vinification and aging:
After bunch selection, the must was transferred to tank with 40% whole cluster. Fermentation was spontaneous, with no external temperature control, and took place between 23°C and 27°C. Extraction work was minimal, limited to one pump-over per day and two punch-downs carried out at key moments of the fermentation.
After pressing, the wine aged for 18 months in a single 500-litre French oak barrel of several uses. It was bottled unclarified and unfiltered.

Find outPairing KORDE El Castillo

“KORDE El Castillo is a wine with character, but also with fluidity. It calls for a cuisine that honours the past with respect while embracing simplicity. A stew of beans with partridge or a rice dish with small game brings out its depth without overshadowing the wine’s finesse.
It also finds its place alongside seasonal vegetables roasted with thyme and olive oil, or a warm selection of cured meats and aged cheeses from the Castilian plateau.
This is a wine that understands the flavour of the land — and pairs beautifully with everything born from it.”
